5. How to Begin — Without Making Things Worse

How to Begin Without Making Things Worse

In subsequent articles we will give you exercises for your relationship. However, the state between you must be calm and safe before we move on.

Walk in and announce "we need to work on our relationship," and most wives will hear "you are the problem," or "another attempt to fix us." Defenses go up. Trust goes down.

Present it as an open invitation, out of curiosity and a desire to get closer, not as a diagnosis. Keep the first request small and non-threatening. Something like: "I've been thinking about us, and I would love for us to get closer. I found some ideas I want to try. Would you be open to sitting down with me for a bit this week?"

Small. Curious. No pressure.

If she refuses or responds with suspicion, do not push. Return to the thirty-minute foundation. Build trust. Try again from the right place. Initial refusal is not failure. It is a sign that the foundation of trust and security needs more time before you jump into exercises.

What you gain by approaching slowly

Confidence. Approaching your wife with an intention to increase connection should give you confidence. All women want this. If you approach her slowly and work with her, you will succeed.

Acceptance, not rejection. In order to rekindle the connection with your wife, you can build an inviting, safe, warm environment she naturally wants to enter.

No person can be forced to change or open up. Demand locks her desire. Invitation and your personal example open it.
